Managing your relocation expectations

February 20, 2019

Hello Blog-fam!

Who else thinks this year has wings? The way we have flown through (now almost two months) is truly amazing!
Consider this post my “mic check”. Some people can relate to mic checks, sound checks etc! Oh my days in the media! Lord knows I miss them! It was absolute fun!

Moving countries is a “strong” decision to make. Yeah, so in your case, you may have just decided to move because you realised your favourite akara (bean cake) seller didn’t turn up that morning at yaba market junction. (Las gidi people can relate), well for you it was super easy! Congratulations and come for a medal please, cos you deserve one! Some other people however get anxiety from the sheer thought!

There’s the fear of the unknown, the cold! Oh! the cold! That one should be a post on its own! but fear not! A bunch of us have taken the leap and have survived, so you too can be jusssssstttttt fine (if this is what you want to do, “if” like I said).

That said, moving is not for everyone. I miss the sunshine personally! Oh boy I really do! and nothing, trust me – NOTHING can substitute for that really nice ever-available-brunch-on-the-go brewing at practically every road side near you – “fried yam and PEPPER SAUCE” (sambaday helllppppp!!!)

But hey, stuff came up and I grabbed a scale, put my worries on it, weighed the circumstance and it was only a very negligible tip to the side that said “move”, so it was a struggle to move as I did love my Lagos-life! But in the end – I guess I had to make a choice.

So this post/upcoming webinar is not geared at advising you to move countries but more at cushioning the confusion for those who already have made up their mind to or have visas in hand to move but are obviously still dancing to the beat of the drums that sing “uncertainty”. Nothing is guaranteed I guess but who got anywhere by just not making a choice eh? (well well, there are probably a couple – the exceptional few. “Few” being the operative word, so it doesn’t happen all the time! So here you go! Have some of my “back-to-reality” cool aid! comes in handy alllll tha time! )

So if you’re one of those who would (have) love(d) to move countries but can’t because you have heard that the cold can kill! (they didnt lie to you there sha. lol) or just need someone to ask a ton of questions – feel free to come hang with me for 40 minutes on Saturday the 23rd of February 2019 on my (drumroll!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – “very first”) Instagram live chat, 6pm West African time, 8pm East African time, 10am Mountain time for Calgary. Other time zone people, please do the conversions and make it a date! lol (see featured photo for details).

I really feel the need to do this (give back to the community at large) because I was also at this very point of decision making not to long ago and it was tough! Trust me it was. I wanted to ask questions but sometimes thought they were irrelevant, I would “ask google” but then end up more confused sometimes. (who else can relate with “googl-ing” everything? and ending up with something like a death sentence each time! lol.) But anyways, this time….”ALL” questions are welcome as long as they are not offensive to the general public. #Bringiton!

Looking forward to chatting!
