I recently put up a post on my instagram page @tolajimoh which read “Not every storm comes to disrupt your life…. some come to clear your path”. And I may have spoken too soon even!
Fast forward 24 hours later – The storm that came, let’s just say I wasn’t ready.
So I recently moved into my own apartment in Calgary (Yes, I still owe the blog this story … coming soon) and had started purchasing and collecting furniture in bits, leaving the TV for the last. I had spotted something at BestBuy which was an incredible deal; great size, great functions, but was 2017 and was being phased out! huh! I couldn’t have been bothered that it was last year’s model – it was a great bargain!
I had rung up the store yesterday morning and there was one left! ONE LEFT! in the whole of western Canada! Oh my faith kicked in! That TV was mine! It had to be mine! It had been reserved for me! What didn’t I tell myself? Off to BestBuy, I ran in a heartbeat!
Excited, reassured, and finally getting my own LED, 4k, smart, bla bla bla TV and I got in only to find… IT HAD BEEN SOLD! and no! You can’t imagine how I felt, how my heart sunk. How could it not have been available, I was told there was one in the factory and I could come into the store and have it ordered! what just happened? They kept “trying to see what they could do” as attendant after another, they would storm into a back room and come out, have a look at a certain system, shrug, go back into an inner room, come out….. Lord! They must have repeated that cycle at least 10 times! Everyone with walkie talkies, you would think you were in an emergency room! and I just kept standing there, dazed, lost, hopes dashed, this was one storm I could have very well done without.
Now to the part where you want to “ra-ba-ba” (Yoruba word for dance) with me:
Unknown to us all, there was an LG staff in the store who came shopping and had noticed the whole brouhaha, he beckoned on one of the managers, and after inquiring what the situation was, he asked that I be given any other LG TV available in the store within my size preference for the same price regardless of how much the floor sale price was. Ah! I had to be dreaming! Are you kidding me?
Here I was literally in tears for a product which was being phased out and in a flash, I was being offered the option to literally pick and choose from any of the 2018 models on the floor????
So was it a good thing that 2017 model sold out on me? YOU BET! I ended up with a product with upgraded and enhanced features as well as a remote you can talk to! lol. Gist for later. All at no extra cost!
Always ask when in a difficult situation, for the strength to see the good that can come out of it. Sometimes that thing you think is the best for you, really isnt.
Oh! and Thank you LG! I love love love this TV. It is really super cool!
